Master Class: Statement Ting
Every year, SOW starts the programming year off with a Master Class about Artist Statements. This Master Class gives Members a deep dive into the purpose of an Artist Statement, how to build one, and how it can reflect their commitment to their craft. Statement Ting will ask Members to think critically about the descriptors that define who they are as an artist and what their works stands for. SOW values the voices of young BIPOC creatives and a strong Artist Statement is the most effective (and sometimes the most difficult) introduction an artist can make.
Statement Ting will include various exercises and break-out sessions to help Members create or enhance their Artist Statement for future freelance and full-time work.

SCREENSHOT Featuring Marcus Correa
Marcus Correa is a creative director and stylist based in New York City. His work is rooted in creative storytelling and amplifying the voices of marginalized communities. The intention behind Correa's vision is to challenge colonial beauty standards via representation. His projects explore identity, diaspora, gender, and social justice.
Correa takes a stylized approach to visuals blurring the lines between documentary and fashion, accentuating the beauty of the people he highlights through hyper realism. For Correa the garments are simply an extension of the person wearing them. The goal is to make those who he dresses feel comfortable, powerful and seen.
